More than Rs 1,000 crore has been released for the conservation of 157 Wetland in the country, Union Minister of National Environmental Protection Scheme (NPCA), Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Prakash Javadekar, informed Parliament on Friday. . “Under the NPCA scheme, the central assistance is based on the proposals received from the state governments, in line with the guidelines and budget availability. Accordingly, till now, MoEFCC has approved projects for conservation of 157 Wetlands in the country and has released an amount of about Rs 1,039 crore as a central share, “Said the minister. NPCA is a conservation program for both wetlands and lakes.
It is a centrally sponsored scheme, currently being implemented by the MoEFCC, and was prepared in 2015 by the merger of the National Lake Conservation Plan and the National Wetland Conservation Program. “Various departments in the central government and state governments are engaged in the restoration, conservation and protection of lakes and lakes. Javadekar said that the work related to water resources development and management is planned, financed, executed and maintained by the state governments as per their own resources and priorities.
