Weekend curfew lifted in Kyiv, paving way for Indian students to move to safer places

A weekend curfew has been lifted in the Ukrainian capital, paving the way for Indian nationals stranded in the last five days of fierce fighting between the armies of Russia and Ukraine to move to safer places. The Indian Embassy in Ukraine said through social media, “Weekend curfew has been lifted in Kyiv. All students are advised to go to the railway station to travel to the western parts.”

Armed conflict between Russia and Ukraine intensified in the early hours of Thursday when Russian forces launched a major attack on Ukraine, firing missiles at cities and military installations, posing a serious threat to Indian citizens living there. Since then, India started evacuating its citizens from the war-torn area in time. The embassy further informed that Ukraine railways is running special trains for evacuation. Earlier on Sunday, in areas of the war-torn country where curfew has been imposed, Indian citizens have been advised not to wait until the curfew is lifted.

Till then they don’t go towards railway stations. According to the advisory issued on Sunday, “Based on new inputs, intense fighting is going on in Kharkiv, Sumy and Kyiv. It is reiterated, in these cities and other cities where curfew has been imposed, Indian citizens are not advised to venture towards railway stations till the curfew is lifted.” It further said that Ukrainian Railways, at the railway station is operating special trains to evacuate people free of cost on first come first serve basis

And that doesn’t require a ticket. The embassy said it was closely monitoring the developing situation, particularly in the eastern regions of Ukraine. Meanwhile, to end the war, Ukraine has agreed to negotiate the Belarusian-Ukrainian border with Russia. According to the latest reports, the Ukrainian delegation is now in Belarus and talks are expected to start soon.
