While the popularity of Prime Minister Narendra Modi remains intact across India, the BJP’s double engine government in Assam has strengthened the confidence of the people. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is living up to the expectations of the people. As a result of this, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led coalition government has won a landslide victory in the municipal elections held in the capital Guwahati. In the municipal elections held after 9 years, where the NDA surprised everyone by winning 58 out of the total 60 seats in the municipal corporation, Congress’s account was not even opened.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated the workers of the party on this massive victory of the BJP. Prime Minister Modi, who arrived at Palli village in Samba, Jammu and Kashmir, to participate in the program organized on National Panchayati Raj Day, tweeted in Assamese and English, saying, ‘Thank you Guwahati! The people of this lovely city have voted in favor of BJP to move ahead on the path of development. He has given his blessings to the hard work of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who worked day and night for Assam. I congratulate BJP workers for their hard work.

Re-tweeting PM Modi’s tweet, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote, “Respected Prime Minister, we are indebted to you for your congratulations and well wishes. This is a result of your vision and development work in the Northeast.” Sarma termed the victory of BJP in the municipal elections as historic. He said that I thank allies of BJP, workers and people of Guwahati for giving historic majority to BJP. Former Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal also congratulated the BJP and AGP for the victory in the GMC elections.
