Meeting with Biden: PM Modi said- partnership of trust between India and America

Prime Minister Narendra Modi held bilateral talks with US President Joe Biden on the sidelines of the Quad Summit in Tokyo today, 24 May. Prime Minister Modi told Joe Biden that India and America have a relationship of trust and apart from trade, the relationship between the two countries is progressing. The India-US strategic partnership is truly a partnership of trust, he said. Our common interests in many areas have strengthened this relationship of trust. Trade and investment between us is also expanding continuously.
During the meeting between the two leaders, a wide range of aspects of India-US relations including trade, investment, defense as well as people-to-people contacts were discussed. The Prime Minister said that people-to-people contacts and strong economic cooperation make the India-US partnership unique. He said that the relations in the field of bilateral trade and investment are also growing steadily. But there is still a huge scope for their expansion.

The two leaders welcomed the signing of the Investment Promotion Agreement, which enables the US Development Finance Corporation to continue to provide investment support in India in shared priority areas such as holistic health, renewable energy, SMEs, infrastructure, and more.
The two sides launched the Initiative on Critical and Emerging Technologies (ICET) to facilitate India-US cooperation. ICET, co-led by the National Security Council Secretariat in India and the US National Security Council, will establish close ties in academia and industry between the governments of the two countries in areas such as AI, quantum computing, 5G/6G, biotech, space and semiconductors.
In the context of further strengthening defense and security cooperation, the Prime Minister invited US industry to partner to manufacture in India under Make in India and Self-reliant India. Taking forward their growing cooperation in the health sector, India and the US have extended the long-running Vaccine Action Program (VAP) to 2027 to continue joint biomedical research.
In order to strengthen people-to-people contacts, the Prime Minister called for strengthening higher education cooperation that can be of mutual benefit. Simultaneously, the two leaders exchanged views on regional issues of mutual interest, including South Asia and the Indo-Pacific, reaffirming their shared vision for a free, open and inclusive Indo-Pacific region.
