Government will be strict on mosques and madrasas in France, ban on polygamy

Taking a major step against Islamic radicalism, the French parliament has approved the controversial bill. The bill provides for increased government surveillance on mosques and madrasas and strictness on multiple marriages and forced marriages. The bill allows harsh action against those who undermine France’s secular traditions. The bill was backed by 347 votes while 151 MPs opposed it.

Since the assassination of teacher Samuel Patty last year, there has been a demand in France to enact stringent laws against Islamic fundamentalism. President Emmanuel Macron had said on several occasions that he would soon take steps in this direction. It is believed that in the coming days, there may be a ruckus in the country regarding the bill passed by the lower house of Parliament. Because it will directly affect the Muslim community. Now this bill will be introduced in the Senate.

President Emmanuel Macron has stated that French values such as gender equality and secularism need to be protected, so such laws are in the country’s interest. At the same time, Muslims living in France say that this law will not only limit their religious freedom, but they will be targeted through it. He also said that since France already has enough legislation to fight terrorist violence, there is no need to introduce a new bill.

Significantly, in October last year, a student was beheaded by an attacker for showing a cartoon of Prophet Mohammed to the student. The incident took place outside a middle school in Conflance Saint-Honorin, about 30 kilometers from the capital Paris.

The government has been in action against Islamic fundamentalism since the murder of teacher Patty in France. President Emmanuel Macron also said that today violence and killings are being promoted in the name of Islam and there are people who are justifying the killings and massacres by carrying out violent campaigns in the name of Islam. He said that terrorism is also a problem of Islam, because 80% of its victims are Muslims and they are its first victims. He had assured that the war against Islamic fundamentalism would continue.
