Highway construction at about 37 km in a day, a record: Gadkari

Despite the epidemic and the lockout, India has constructed 13,298 km of highways in the 2020-21 fiscal year which ended in March. Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari on Thursday called 37 km per day (36.4 km) of average construction speed a “world record”. This is 29 percent more highway stretch than the previous financial year.

Gadkari said that the target would be even higher in the coming years. The same period also saw a similar increase in the amount of contracts awarded to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, which awarded projects costing 10,467 km through various weapons. “When Modiji asked me which ministry I want, So I asked for the road ministry. He told me to remember that the road ministry did not feature in the top five performing ministries at that time. But I told him, I didn’t want any of the top five ministries, I wanted roads because I felt I could do a good job here. Today I felt so, ”Gadkari said on Thursday in a ceremony to celebrate the achievement

. When the NDA government took power, there were 406 highway projects worth Rs 3.85 lakh crore stalled due to various reasons. Recalling the Emergency days and later when the BJP would lose all elections, Gadkari said that there was a time when the BJP would not win the elections. “All our deposits will be confiscated. But finally we came to power. Similarly, when I said that we would build 40 km of road per day, it seemed impossible, even to our engineers. But today we are here.

Our engineers too. But today we are here. Our engineers too. But today we are here. I wanted roads because I thought I could do a good job here. Today I felt so, ”Gadkari said on Thursday in a ceremony to celebrate the achievement.
