Love Jihad cases on the rise in Muslim-majority East Bihar

In the last few months, state governments across the country have brought laws against love jihad. However, the Nitish Kumar government in Bihar has not brought any such law in Bihar despite the increasing number of cases in the state. In Muslim-majority eastern Bihar, girls from Dalit families are being abducted for marriage by Muslim goons. Boys from Muslim families bring girls from Dalit families and force them to convert to Islam and get them married. BJP state president Sanjay Jaiswal has raised questions on the law and order situation in the state.[PC:TimesofIndia]Also, Mines and Geology Minister Janak Ram has written to the District Magistrates of Jamui and Gopalganj regarding the conversion of a minor Mahadalit girl. The letter is written, who was forcibly married to a Muslim man in Deep Nagar Masjid. The cases of love jihad are related to conversion, not love, Thus the term ‘love jihad’ has been made a misnomer in itself. So far, five BJP-ruled states—Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka and Assam—have promised to bring in a law to address the growing number of love jihad cases in India. What the BJP-ruled states are trying to address is an illegal conversion practice as the motive behind most cases of love jihad is conversion. A few months ago, the ‘Metro Man of India’ – E Sreedharan said that the threat of love jihad is real and he personally cannot ignore it. Speaking to NDTV, Sreedharan said, “Love Jihad, yes, I see what happened in Kerala. How Hindus are being tricked and victimized in a marriage… not only Hindus, Muslims, Christian girls are being tricked into marriage. Now I will definitely oppose this kind of thing.” Not only Hindus, the Christian community has also been a target of love jihad. Kerala Congress (Mani) chief Jose K Mani has said that love jihad is a major issue and needs to be studied and addressed. “There have been some issues that need to be addressed, we should definitely address it. If something like this is happening, then we should solve it.” In the last few months, the Christian community in Kerala has raised the issue of love jihad continuously. before this, Varghese Vallikkat, deputy general secretary of the Kerala Catholic Bishops’ Council, stood up against the incident and said “love jihad” should be addressed at a wider level and “secular political parties should at least acknowledge” that it exists in Kerala. The state is increasingly extremist and has links to international and global Islam. It varies in names, but the people and the leadership of these groups are almost the same,” Vallikkat said. He also said that secular parties in Kerala were not interested in discussing ‘love jihad’. Read more: The Family Man 2: The way an OTT web series presents Love Jihad for the first time in the last few years, The Christian community has been the target of radical Muslim youth who are converting Christian women by marrying them. This has alarmed the Christian community in the state and forced the Catholic Church as well as the Syrian-Malabar Church to raise the issue. Till now, secular parties, including those backed by the Christian community like Kerala Congress (M), were not even ready to accept that an issue like love jihad existed. Girls from other religions are becoming the target of love jihad, and every state should bring a law against such crime. However, the ‘secular’ government of Nitish Kumar has not yet taken the issue seriously. They were not even ready to believe that an issue like love jihad existed. Girls from other religions are becoming the target of love jihad, and every state should bring a law against such crime. However, the ‘secular’ government of Nitish Kumar has not yet taken the issue seriously. They were not even ready to believe that an issue like love jihad existed. Girls of other religions are becoming the target of love jihad, and every state should bring a law against such crime. However, the ‘secular’ government of Nitish Kumar has not yet taken the issue seriously.
