Special team of UP Police leaves for Ropar to bring back Mukhtar Ansari

Officials said on Monday that a team of Uttar Pradesh police left for Punjab on Monday to bring back gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari in Punjab. The Punjab Home Department has asked the Uttar Pradesh government to take custody of the BSP MLA jailed till 8 April.

Today, a police team has left for Punjab to bring Mukhtar Ansari. The team will take all necessary security measures to bring him in, ”said Superintendent of Police (Banda) Siddharth Shankar Meena. Senior police officers refused to divulge the details of how many police personnel Ansari was going to bring. History Sheeter Ansari is currently lodged in Ropar Jail in connection with extortion in UP Police records.

The Punjab Police brought him from the UP jail on the basis of a production warrant issued about a fortnight after the registration of the extortion case in 2019. In an order on 26 March, The Supreme Court, on a petition by the UP government, directed the Punjab government to hand over the custody of Ansari to the Uttar Pradesh Police in two weeks. In the letter, the Punjab Home Department had asked the Additional Chief Secretary (Home) of Uttar Pradesh to make suitable arrangements for Ansari’s transfer.

It was also said that Ansari faced some medical conditions and that can be taken into consideration while arranging for his transfer. Sources said that an ambulance along with the police team has also been sent to Punjab. Police said Ansari will be brought to Banda District Jail, where additional security arrangements have been made to protect him. in between, Additional Director General (Law and Order) Prashant Kumar said that 96 members of “Ansari’s gang” have been arrested and 85 of them have been registered under the Gangsters Act. Police also said that the arms licenses of 72 of Ansari’s associates have been canceled or suspended, and assets worth Rs 192 crore have been confiscated, freed or demolished for the BSP MLA and his associates. Police said Ansari is facing 52 cases in UP and elsewhere and 15 of them are in trial. .
